VanEck Plans to Launch Ethereum ETF Ahead of Competitors
First to File and Expecting to Go First
VanEck's Head of Digital Assets Research, Matthew Sigel, announced on May 22 that the firm is working towards launching a spot Ethereum ETF ahead of its competitors. During a conversation hosted by The Block, Sigel revealed that VanEck was the first to file its S-1 registration statement and is confident in receiving approval and launching the ETF first.
This news comes as no surprise, as VanEck has been a leader in the ETF space for digital assets. In 2020, the firm launched the first physically-backed Bitcoin ETF in Europe, and has been actively pursuing approval for a Bitcoin ETF in the US as well.
With the growing interest in Ethereum and its use cases, an Ethereum ETF has been highly anticipated by investors. This ETF would allow investors to gain exposure to Ethereum without having to actually hold the cryptocurrency itself, providing a more convenient and regulated investment option.
Benefits of an Ethereum ETF
Aside from convenience and regulation, an Ethereum ETF would also open up investment opportunities for institutions and retail investors alike. It would also bring more legitimacy to the cryptocurrency market, as ETFs are seen as a more traditional and mainstream investment vehicle.
The launch of an Ethereum ETF would also likely have a positive impact on the price of Ethereum, as seen with the rise in Bitcoin's price after the launch of the first Bitcoin ETF in Europe.
